Are the memory cards back?
Following recent information about a Sony-registered patent for a video game cartridge, the picture of what the company may be planning for the PlayStation 5 is starting to get a little clearer, according to new speculative details. LetsGoDigital has released images of what it is thought these Sony cartridges really are, based on the illustrations in the patent itself: interchangeable SSD cartridges.
The company may be planning to return to a familiar market from its previous consoles, offering future game users the option to expand the memory of their handset with their own SSD cartridges rather than older Memory Cards. Through this tactic, the PS5 could actually be cheaper than anticipated, as it has already been suggested.
Today, with PlayStation 4 models that use HDDs, users can choose to increase the memory capacity of the console through internal and external drives. Knowing this, it is quite possible that Sony wants to offer its own choice to its consumers, rather than relying on third parties like Western Digital and Seagate.
So far, Sony has not commented on the patent.
