Lewis Hamilton only car racing during bizarre Hungarian Grand Prix restart

Lewis Hamilton was the only car racing as the Hungarian Grand Prix descended into bizarre scenes following a major crash caused by Valtteri Bottas. The Finn drive into the back of Lando Norris and sent him spearing into Max Verstappen. Four cars had to retire because of the incident.

The red flags were waved and all cars were called to the pits while the race was suspended.

However, heavy rain began to fall during the resulting foundation lap and all the cars beside Hamilton decided to pit again.

That meant the seven-time world champion was the only car on the track when the race restarted.

That proved to be a monumental error as he was then required to pit on the following lap and he fell to the back of the field.

Lewis Hamilton was the only car racing at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
"I don't know what to say, guys," he said over the team radio. "I can't get close to people."

Meanwhile, a frustrated Norris hit out at Bottas after his race came to a premature end.

"If I get a penalty for doing for not even doing anything wrong in other tracks, he should deserve a much bigger penalty than what I got," Norris said.

"We'll see. I hope they have some common sense and do what they should do, but it's not up to me at the end of the day."
